When I started The Chase, I had no plan to turn it into a series. But then I got curious about Seren’s best friend E—and from there, it snowballed into The Constellation series.
Something similar happened with Forged in Deception, just on a much deeper level.
I’d just written A Question of Sincerity and A Question of Courage and wanted to do something different—a standalone with a bit more going on than just romance. Around that time, Tina Turner’s Thief of Hearts kept playing in my head, and that’s where the first spark came from.
What I didn’t expect was how far this story would take me.
Forged in Deception ended up opening the door to two more books—The Weight of the Fall and In Pieces—and I completely fell in love with these characters along the way.
Penelope, for example, can “taste” colors. I added that early on because I found the idea fascinating. Only later did I realize how perfectly it fit the story I was telling.
That’s the part of writing I still don’t fully understand—how certain choices seem to guide everything that comes after.
All I know is that this series has been an absolute joy to write, and I’ve never been this excited to share a world with readers.
Forged in Deception is available now at the Ylva shop. If you want to step into this world, you can get it here.
Wide release and KU starts on April 15.
